El Morro National Monument, Ramah

UPDATE: Fred Moosman, Chief Ranger reports that the inscription preservation and monitoring program continues with assistance from Regional Park Service trainers and coordinators.

The rock fall monitoring program continues with assistance for US Geological Survey staff. Two monitors (mechanical and electronic) are monitored on El Morro Rock cliff-face to measure potential movement and tilt of sensitive areas. The Atsinna ruin stabilization program continues, and the Vanishing Treasures program archeological crews continue re-pointing wall mortars and testing stabilization techniques.

Biological Inventory continues at El Morro with the intent of listing all current mammals, reptiles, birds, and wild plants in a single database. The pro-active and preventative wildland fire-thinning project was completed to protect administrative buildings, visitor center, residences, neighboring property, and archeological sites from intense wildfires.
