Truby's Tower and Three Corn Ruins, Rio Arriba County

UPDATE: Truby?s Tower. This is another success story. Funding by an appropriation from the 2001 State Legislature provided the State Land Office with the resources to preserve this non-renewable cultural resource. The San Juan County Museum Association/Division of Conservation Archaeology operating from the Salmon Ruins Museum in Bloomfield, New Mexico conducted the work. The repairs on Truby?s tower included extensive replacement of mortar in joints of the masonry, capping the tops of the original walls and extensive documentation of the stabilization efforts. The final report on the Truby?s Tower project was submitted to and accepted by the New Mexico State Land Office in 2002. The structural stabilization is holding up well at the site.

Three Corn Ruin. There was no initiative passed by the State Legislature last year for State Land Office funds to begin stabilization of Three Corn Ruin. They have a bill before the State Legislature in 2003 but it will probably not be enough to initiate structural stabilization. The scope of work is sufficiently extensive which may require partners in preservation to secure the funding needed to complete the project.
